Career history at Hilti
When I first saw a Sales role at Hilti advertised on LinkedIn, working closely with customers in the field was the thing that attracted me. I didn’t want a job that was completely desk or office-based. Seeing this opportunity go live in Paris really excited me and I knew it was the right move.
Starting out in Sales at Hilti gave me a real opportunity to see how the business works and the importance of building strong and lasting customer relationships. Being faced with challenges and solving them together allowed me to really become immersed in all things Hilti. This is where I learned the philosophy of our customers and this became the area of my work that I was most interested in exploring further.
I learned so much about myself while working in Sales and it gave me the skills and confidence to plan my own time and work in a way that suits me. It was eye-opening and gave me a new drive to take on responsibility, manage my time, my workload and my own meetings.
After just two years, I was given the opportunity to move roles and trusted in a digital space that I’d never worked in before. My manager saw that I was ready for a new challenge and helped me get there. The role that I was offered was my dream job. It ticked all the right boxes for me, putting me at the middle of a project with customer relationships at its core. It just felt right. The opportunity to move to a more digital position allowed me to create and share our tools and solutions from afar, as well as on a more personal level through job site visits.
Every day I get more confident and excited presenting Live videos to camera. Then after each show I get to see all the interaction and conversation between customers, and it really makes me feel connected to them and their solution.
Career history at Hilti
During my last semester in grad school, I had numerous job offers with quite renowned companies. However, I chose Hilti to be my first job out of school. It was hard for me to leave my hometown of Pittsburgh to move to Dallas, Texas, but I knew I would be ok as I felt the warmth and caring culture during my onsite interview. To this day, it is the people on my team, floor and throughout the building that keeps me happy at Hilti. I have been impressed with the willingness of people wanting to help me understand the construction industry, our customers, and best practices.
One of my first responsibility was helping grow my team here in the Plano location. My third day at work, I was sitting on the other side of the interview table with my boss assessing potential candidates for our team. I was shocked by how accepting my manager was of my opinion on candidates – even when we might have disagreed. Another responsibility of mine is to improve the way my team works – moving towards a more agile methodology.
I was very surprised within the first three months of starting my job, since I had two conversations with my team leader about my future at Hilti, including the professional development I would need to be successful. Due to these conversations that has happened numerous times throughout the year, I become certified in SCRUM Master and Product Owner with the Scrum Alliance. This certification has helped me preform my tasks better as a product owner and has open my network outside of Hilti.
